SES-1 is a geostationary communications satellite which is operated by SES World Skies, then by SES. It was originally ordered by SES Americom as a ground spare for AMC-5R, however in April 2008 a decision was made to launch it, and it was named AMC-1R.

2023年1月14日 · In early 2010, the satellites were renamed from AMC 4R, AMC 5R and AMC ground spare to SES 1, 2 and 3 respectively. SES 1 was configured for direct GEO insertion by the Proton-M Briz-M launch vehicle and therefore omitting the apogee engine and the oxidizer.

SES-1 is a telecommunication satellite principally used for providing high-power direct-to-home (DTH) and digital broadcasting services to very small aperture terminals (VSAT) in the US. It is currently being operated from the 101° west longitude. The satellite, which is part of the SES fleet, was launched into geostationary orbit on 24 April 2010.
