SGBV touches persons in many countries - in Africa, the Americas, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Victims are left with physical, emotional and psychological scars. Sexual and gender based violence manifests itself in well-documented atrocities committed during armed conflict in the full glare of international media.

Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) against women and girls in armed conflict, detention or humanitarian crises is horrific, widespread and well documented. They are not alone. There is now increasing recognition of the diversity of victims/survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in conflict settings and other humanitarian emergencies.
