The Flying Dragon Nebula or Sh2-114 is located in the constellation Cygnus (the Swan) at an unknown distance which is surprising to me. It is a very faint nebula in an extremely rich star field which is probably why it is not imaged as much as other objects in the vicinity.

SH2-114 is an extremely faint emission nebula located in the constellation of Cygnus. This image was the result of 17.5 hours of HSSrgb exposure. This image was shot with my Askar FRA400 72mm f/5.5 Astrograph system - using a ZWO ASI1600MM-Pro camera - all mounted on an IOptron CEM26 mount.

The filamentary structures resemble a supernova remnant. However, no supernova remnant appears to be recorded for this location.

Sh2-114 in Cygnus is an extremely faint emission nebula in the Cygnus Milky Way. It is known as the Flying Dragon Nebula, as its wispy twisted shapes resemble a flying dragon with outstretched bat-like wings, a serpentine neck, and two aptly placed yellow stars for glowing eyes on its face.

2023年7月31日 · This is a very faint but interesting Nebula hidden in this extremely rich star field located at 3,848 Light years from Earth in the Swan Constellation. Some of the delicate structure looks similar to a (SNR) supernova remnant, but there are no recorded Supernova in this region.
