SH2-240, also known as the Spaghetti nebula, is a large and faint supernova remnant between Taurus and Auriga. It is so faint in fact, that this nebula was not even discovered until 1952! It is believed that the nebula was formed when a rapidly spinning neutron star exploded. This project was a real struggle.

2024年2月28日 · The Spaghetti Nebula (SIMEIS 147 / SH2-240) is a very large supernova remnant, with an apparent diameter of about 3 degrees. It is hard to observe due to its low brightness. Many past images have shown that this target has rich details. I was planning to capture it when using a 12-inch Newtonian telescope.

2018年2月20日 · Simeis 147 is a very large supernova remnant (about 3 degrees across in apparent diameter) that I captured here with various filters, a monochrome camera, and a camera lens with a focal length of 200mm. Very challenging and also very fun object to try with a wide field setup. It was mostly shot from my light polluted backyard in Newark, DE.
