The Shan State Army (Burmese: ရှမ်းပြည်တပ်မတော် - မြောက်ပိုင်း; abbreviated SSA or SSPP/SSA), also known as Shan State Army – North (SSA-N) [a] or Shan State Army/Special Region 3 (SSA/SR-3) is a Shan nationalist insurgent group in Myanmar (Burma). It is the armed wing of the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP). [5]

The SSA was founded in 1964 after the merging of two existing insurgent groups. The SSA recruited and trained thousands of local Shan people to join their ranks.

2022年5月3日 · Equally critical, the SSNA made an alliance with the SSPP, a much older Shan EAO that still controlled territories in northern and central Shan State. Initially known as the Shan State Army (SSA), the SSPP was established by students in the 1960s and quickly became the leading political voice for the Shan cause.

In 1971, the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) was established and its first congress was held on August 16, 1971. The SSPP signed a ceasefi re agreement with Myanmar government in 1989. Burma army gave a pressure on the SSPP to transform into BGF in 2010.

It has been holding them captive for over a month and says it will only release them when their sons agree to join the SSPP/SSA, according to a family member of one of the detained parents.

2024年3月30日 · Local groups are calling for peace negotiations after the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) fought each other over two days in Hseni Township, Northern Shan State. Troops from the two ethnic armed organisations (EAOs) fought on 26 and 27 March.
