You can easily board the ship, by just pressing E on the ladder, even if you're the boat pilot. The range on the ladder is big, compared to most "E" stuff on Rust. There's 2 types of cargo, try to learn their schematics and where the scientists spawn.

The Cargo Ship Monument in Rust is quite different from other monuments as it’s not a stationary monument; it will always keep moving in the ocean and offers a variety of loot that you can get from exploring it.
