2024年4月24日 · When it comes to the hidden gems near Malibu, a coastal city west of Los Angeles, my number one suggestion is the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine or simply Lake Shrine.

The archway frames the Gandhi World Peace Memorial, an outdoor shrine where an authentic 1,000 year-old Chinese stone sarcophagus actually holds some of the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi himself. And all of this is located just a few blocks away from the busy Pacific Coast Highway and world-famous Malibu - yet it seems like a world away.

There are unexpected surprises around every corner at Lake Shrine, with secret pathways leading to alcoves, and waterfalls cascading through moss laden rockeries and plunging into the lake. The two beautiful waterfalls have statues of Jesus and Krishna overlooking them.

Paths meander around a spring-fed, artificial lake and past clumps of flowers and swaying palms to the Windmill Chapel, where George Harrison’s memorial was held, and back to a shrine containing some of the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi. Sprinkled throughout are quotes from Hindu and Christian saints.
