ZTL & Parking in Siena Italy (and Tuscany) with US handicap …
2024年8月18日 · We will be renting a car for nearly a week in Tuscany next month, staying in an apartment within the ZTL in Siena (my AirBNB host is also researching for us, but didn't know the answers right away). I understand that Italy will recognize US handicap placards, and that they permits free parking at meters and municipal lots.

2020年2月6日 · In the case of a ZTL, below the sign there is a panel that explains the exception to the prohibition (basically emergency vehicles, residents with authorization, delivery trucks at certain hours). If one sees that sign, one should stay out of it, and park outside. There will be no chance of getting a ticket.

2018年11月8日 · I will confess that, like many other Italians, I don’t like these ZTL fines and consider them a tax. Yes, they are not aimed at tourists, but in reality, for all intended purposes, they are a visitor’s tax. Nearly 50% of ZTL fines in Florence are issued to foreign visitors, almost 40% are issued to Italian visitors (not residing in Florence).
Florence Car Rental - ZTL? - Rick Steves Travel Forum

From the airport rental center then you'd need a taxi into the city ...

2024年12月25日 · BUT we also booked cars outside the ZTL when picking up in cities because exiting can be done but a small mistake and a couple of turns around the block can rack up several tickets as you pass the cameras. So in Florence we rent our cars from the airport. In Siena we would probably use the train station where we can exit without crossing ZTLs.

2009年6月23日 · I'm not Steve, but ZTL stands for "Zona a Traffico Limitato" meaning "Limited Traffic Zone". Many tourist towns in Italy designate their old city center as a ZTL meaning, generally, only people who live in that area, and taxis, can drive in that part of town. It's designed to reduce car traffic in places that don't have much room for autos.
Florence to Siena by taxi or private driver - Rick Steves
2024年3月16日 · If you are scared to drive in Florence, which there is no reason to, since driving in Siena is worse and with also a ZTL (the oldest in Italy in fact), you can pick up (and drop off) the car at the Florence airport and be on freeways from the start all the way to Siena exit.
Where to stay in Tuscany? Lucca or Siena? - Rick Steves
2024年4月15日 · Siena is about 5x larger than old town Lucca, hilly and more dramatic and much more touristy. Lucca is close to Pisa and the coast but further from famous Tuscan towns like San Gimignano and Volterra while Siena is also more in what people think of as "Tuscany" with the misty vistas and rolling hills.
