This notebook gives an overview of the Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamical systems (SINDy) method and discusses the relationship between SINDy and PySINDy.

SINDy is a model discovery method which uses sparse regression to infer nonlinear dynamical systems from measurement data. The resulting models are inherently interpretable and generalizable.

Given a series of snapshots of a dynamical system and its corresponding time derivatives, SINDy performs a sparsity-promoting regression (such as LASSO and spare Bayesian inference [2]) on a library of nonlinear candidate functions of the snapshots against the derivatives to find the governing equations.
