Hi, as mentioned at the end of my OP I contacted Sire concerning the issues on the U5 and they agreed to send me a replacement right away. This replacement already arrived yesterday morning and I´ve spend most of the day playing it and going over it in detail.

2021年11月24日 · I was looking at the Fender Player Mustang PJ Bass. Then saw an amazing write up of the Grestch G2228 here. That was great until I saw issues with the single coil pickups being noisy. Then I saw a Sire U5 - seems really nice but hard to get. Gretsch G2220 Sire U5 Fender Player PJ bass My favorite tone on a bass and comfort has been a Jazz Bass.

2009年12月18日 · Update on my Sire U5 to post #12 above. Got the U5 back from SW last week. They replaced the dead pickup and sent it to their shop for a full adjustment. Everything works now. Sounds really good, and feels like a higher quality build than my G2220. Unfortunately that means that I much more quickly find the flaws in my technique.

2020年7月17日 · They measure circa 38-60-72-104 on the bass (at the pickups), the E measures 93 at the nut. I couldn't identify a D'addario set that matched, but Sire have confirmed they use D'addario EXL220S 40-95 (EXL220S Nickel Wound | Bass Guitar Strings | D'Addario) on the U5, which confirms the faulty string theory.

2022年4月23日 · I'm really digging the looks of those Sandberg and they're mostly highly recommended, but in case of sound and playability my Sire U5 (with La Bella flatwounds) is already very good.. would it be worth upgrading? Or would a 34" Fender P bass make more sense next to a Sire U5 Unfortunately I don't have any option to try out a Sandberg Lionel myself.

2024年11月26日 · The Sire U5 30” short scale looks very interesting, but I have a few questions about using through-body strings on it. Will long-scale strings work? Are there any types of strings that don’t work well through-body (i.e. flatwounds or tapewounds or coated, etc.)? Thanks!

2020年7月17日 · When the reviewer received a replacement U5, it also had the same 3,78kg weight. Looks like Scott cuppello got lucky with an extra light one! With a sample size of 3, the average weight seems around 8Lbs. Unbiased review: Sire U5 short scale (30" scale) P/J bass

2005年12月13日 · I have been eyeing the Sire U5 as well. I talked to Pitbull Audio about it (chat) and they told me about a week or 10 days ago that (after he checked) they were supposed to be shipped to them on a slow boat from... wherever in 2 weeks; and then after 3 weeks in transit they would arrive at Pitbull's warehouse, so about 5 weeks in all before truly "in stock" which would be 3-4 weeks from now.
