
Accident Blackburn Skua II L2896, Thursday 13 June 1940
Fifteen Fleet Air Arm, Royal Navy Blackburn Skuas took off from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal at 00:05 hrs. on 13th June 1940, (six, 800 Sqn. and nine, 803 Sqn.), to bomb the German Battleship Scharnhorst anchored in Trondheim Harbour.

The wreckage of the L2896 will add a great number of new parts to the want list. Already found are lots of structure for the aft cockpit as well as the tail section of the airplane. Together with the parts already collected this brings us a lot closer to the goal of having a Skua on display sometimes in the future.

L2896 was repaired and returned to service, coded "A7-A", with 803 Squadron, aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal, on patrol off the Norwegian coast. The aircraft was lost when it was was shot down into the sea during a bombing raid on the German Battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in Trondheim Harbour, early morning of 13th June 1940.

2013年3月25日 · Initial Skua carrier trials aboard HMS Courageous carried out with: K5179, L2869, L2870, in Autumn 1938. 803 Squadron reformed out of 'B' Flight of No. 800 Squadron on 21 November 1938, while 800 Squadron re-equipped with 9 Osprey Mk. IVs. This unit embarked in the new carrier 'Ark Royal' for her shake-down cruise, returning in March 1939.
