Details are presented of design, installation and high-power operation of the SLED system, and the ability to generate a long pulse, including corrections for klystron nonlinearity and deviations from modulator flat-top, is demonstrated. A schematic diagram of the present Diamond linac power distribution is shown on the left side of Fig. 1.

Since a SLED output is not flat, this introduces additional energy variation along a bunch train, increasing the total energy spread. In addition, the energy spread acceptance of the CLS booster ring is below 0.5% FWHM, and it is critical to minimize the SLED non-flatness output efect by diferent methods.

By introducing a SLED RF pulse compressor system to generate a pulse capable to power both structures from one klystron, redundancy and reliabil-ity will be improved. With a 5 μs total pulse, it is possible to charge the SLED cavities for 4 μs and generate a high peak pulse for the last 1 μs able to power both structures.

The KEKB injector linac is usually operated to accelerate only two 10 nC electron bunches per cycle to generate positron[1], since more bunch cannot be equalized the beam energy using the conventional pulse compressor (SLED) and the simple phase flip.

SLED (SLAC Energy Development) cavities, can accelerate only about 150 ns beam pulse within an energy spread of 0.5 % with 1011 particles per pulse.
