2021年12月12日 · Interesting comparison. I've worked with the Sony quite a bit and have done some cabinet and crossover mods, and I would take issue with Erin's explanation for the peak around 1 kHz. Erin attributes this to internal cabinet resonances and/or a port resonance, but it's really just inadequate baffle step compensation.

2021年6月8日 · Erin didn't perform the whole mod I developed. He only added the frames, which I think is good scientifically to isolate the impact. However, if he had performed the resistor short, the slight depression near 2.8 kHz would fill in a bit, and the Sony with the frame and short likely would have measured +/- 1.7 dB from 88 to 12 kHz.

2019年11月20日 · Calculating the actual score by toe-ing like I did for this Sony was a pain in the ass. I could maybe create an automation that automatically rearranges the measurements based on desired listening axis, but that is too much work and wouldn’t be super accurate either (can’t 100% calculate diagonal vertical measurements).

2020年8月19日 · Sony has used paper cone tweeters about 2" in the past. They work perfectly well and would have been a more rational choice given the decision to use the little super-tweeter. But even if a 2" paper cone tweeter had been used, it still might not have made sense to have applied a directivity-control waveguide to the super-tweeter.

2018年6月19日 · Sony are a remarkable company, and are of a mind to reclaim the crown they allowed to slip. (Ironically arguably being lost to Samsung.) There speakers are probably a product of the cheap and nasty division of Sony. It seems most Japanese companies have such a division. Which is a great pity.

2020年5月23日 · Usually that is true, but not with Sony SS CS5 - see the crossover photo in the post #40, it has surprisingly elaborate crossover with quality parts. Unfortunately the tweeter distorts on higher SPL and can't reach high enough in frequency, necessitating a supertweeter. But it is mystery to me why Sony didn't choose better tweeter?
