Soot - Wikipedia
Soot is the primary cause of "ghosting", the discoloration of walls and ceilings or walls and flooring where they meet. It is generally responsible for the discoloration of the walls above baseboard electric heating units. The formation and properties of soot depend strongly on the fuel composition, but may also be influenced by flame temperature.
Insights into the role of fuel structure and blending in soot …
Soot, a carbonaceous particle formed during the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbon fuels, not only reduces combustion efficiency but also poses significant risks to human health and the atmospheric environment.
Multi-scale exploration of the effects of fuel structure and …
2025年2月28日 · To explore the role of fuel structures and hydrogen doping on soot formation under multi-fuel blending, a novel method combines the CoFlame code with ReaxFF MD to investigate the formation properties of soot in complex combustion systems .
• Soot is a small carbonacious particulate species • Soot forms on the rich side of nonpremixed flames as gaseous fuels are pyrolysed. • Soot particles consist of agglomerates of nominally round primary particles. • Primary particle sizes are around 50 nm. • Soot volume fractions are around 1-2 ppmv (up to 10-20).

Soot - Energy Education
Soot forms as a result of incomplete combustion. To achieve incomplete combustion instead of complete combustion, the fuel must burn at a lower temperature with a slightly reduced supply of oxygen. When the fuel burns, it breaks into small particles that include soot, which settles out as a dark powdery deposit.
