Soreng is a town and headquarters of the Soreng district in the Indian state of Sikkim. Soreng was carved as a new district from erstwhile West Sikkim on 21 Dec 2021. [4] Soreng is known for its production of oranges, ginger, large cardamom, vegetables and flowers. [5]

Soreng district lies in the south-west corner of the State of Sikkim. It shares border with the State of West Bengal in the south. Soreng also shares international border with Nepal in the west. It is connected to the capital of the state, Gangtok, with metalled roads.

Soreng is around 100 km away from the capital Gangtok and is the close to Siliguri (around 95km), which is gateway to enter in Sikkim from West Bengal.

The overall phylogenetic arrangement of Poaceae has changed little in the last 5 years (Soreng et al., 2017). However, the arrangement of the subfamilies of the PACMAD clade has remained problematical.
