The town of South Shields is the epitome of a good old-fashioned British seaside resort - full of vinegar-drenched fish and chips, bright lights of fairground rides and sandcastles on the award-winning golden sands of Sandhaven Beach.

Before we started the Hadrian's Wall walk we decided to visit the seaside. We're so glad we did. Wonderful, clean sandy beach. We did not realise that the South Shields area offered such an accessible area. There are a number of car parks, pubs and tea stops along the short route. Shame the weather wasn't warm!
