State Road 401 (SR 401) is a four-lane highway extending from a southern terminus at a trumpet interchange with the Martin Andersen Beachline Expressway (formerly the Bee Line Expressway) and SR A1A to a northern terminus of the south gate of Cape Canaveral Space Force Station near Cape Canaveral.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is beginning design on a project to improve the State Road (S.R.) 401 bridges in Brevard County. Design is following a Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study, which analyzed alternatives for improving the bridges to address access, future mobility, and safety needs.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is painting and rehabilitating the State Road (S.R.) 401 movable bridges at Port Canaveral. In addition to painting, the three bridges will receive structural steel improvements, bridge deck improvements, and new span lock assemblies.

This modification is necessary to reduce vehicular traffic congestion and to ensure the safety of roadways while passengers are transiting to and from the cruise ship terminals.
