State Route 78 (SR 78) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that runs from Oceanside east to Blythe, traversing nearly the entire width of the state. Its western terminus is at Interstate 5 (I-5) in San Diego County and its eastern terminus is at I-10 in Riverside County .

State Route 78 (SR-78) serves as the primary east-west travel corridor between Escondido and Oceanside, traversing through Carlsbad, Vista, and San Marcos, as well as unincorporated areas of San Diego County. It is the main route for local and regional travel in North County and provides north-south connections to Interstates 5 and 15.

SANDAG and Caltrans are working on several multimodal improvements to improve travel through the State Route 78 corridor, the primary east-west travel corridor between the cities of Escondido and Oceanside.

SR-78 Asset Management Project $133 million in improvements have been planned and are anticipated to be implemented along eastbound and westbound SR-78. Activities include pavement resurfacing, bridge rails, ADA ramps, culvert restoration, and a new westbound auxiliary lane between Nordahl and Twin Oaks Valley roads in San Marcos.
