A supersonic transport (SST) or a supersonic airliner is a civilian supersonic aircraft designed to transport passengers at speeds greater than the speed of sound in terms of air speed. To date, the only SSTs to see regular service have been Concorde and the Tupolev Tu-144.

New hybrid air-breathing rocket engines such as Reaction Engine’s “SABRE” offer promising solutions to supersonic and hypersonic travel and space research is throwing up new aircraft design innovation.

The Comac C919 is a narrow-body airliner developed by Chinese aircraft manufacturer Comac. The development program was launched in 2008.
