Star Z-62/Z-63 In 1962 Star Bonifacio Echeverria began developing the Z-62 and Z-63 submachine guns. introduced in the mid-1960s, the Z-62 took some its physical characteristics from the British Sterling submachine gun and combined them with some proprietary features.

The Star Model Z62 is a blowback operated firearm which fires from an open bolt. Earlier variants came with a double crescent trigger for single and full auto.

Star Bonifacio Echeverria, S.A. was a manufacturer of small arms (principally pistol caliber firearms such as handguns and submachine guns) in the Basque region of Spain from about 1905 until 1997.

2002年7月1日 · With the Z-63, the primary caliber for manufacturing became 9mm Parabellum (9×19). The Z-45 design was based on the German MP-40 design with an improvement of a forward bolt latch safely on the bolt handle.

Experienced gained from Spanish Army service with the Z-45 resulted in Star creating an improved, but still 2nd generation SMG in the late 1950s. This entered service in 1963, as the Z62 in 9 mm Largo. A model for commercial sales only in 9 mm Parabellum is known as the Z63. In Spanish Army service, Z62s largely supplanted Z45s one for one.

Almost all "classic" era Star pistols, the basically-1911-looking guns, were made in both original and Super variants. The original series employs a Colt/Browning swinging link, while the Super series use a Sig/Petter closed cam path system. The super models were almost always sold alongside the original style pistols, and did not supplant them.
