System Transformation Excellence and Performance (STEP-VA) initiative seeks to improve Virginia’s public mental health system by building a set of core services, referred to as STEPS, that will be consistent across all 40 Community Services Boards (CSBs) throughout the Commonwealth.

Step VA is a non-profit organization that provides sensory-based theater and arts programs that EMPOWERs people with disabilities and their families through creative expression and sensory exploration.

STEP-VA services will improve access, increase quality, build consistency and strengthen accountability across Virginia’s public behavioral health system. By the end of FY 2019, 100% of CSBs have SDA. Thirty CSBs fully implemented, 2 partial, and 8 preparing for implementation. CSBs will begin providing or expand this service in early 2019.

2022年7月1日 · STEP-VA is a long-term initiative designed to improve the community behavioral health services available to all Virginians. Virginia has appropriated a total of $60 million through FY20 to begin implementation. All 40 CSBs in Virginia are statutorily required to provide all STEP-VA services by July 2021.

To mitigate the mental health impact of COVID-19, a strong safety-net system is critical. STEP-VA and BHE planning and coordination, as well as implementation of and provision of new services, continue despite the pandemic.
