Information about electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) that is not representative of current practice, evidence, and experience can distort people’s perspectives. The public’s perspectives on ECT are important because they can be influential on attitudes to patients who receive treatment and stigma and discrimination associated with receiving ECT.
