Bad design. Never again. 2012 Outback driven normally and maintained to spec. Subaru recall parts upgrades done around 70k. Transmission failed catastrophically at 86k. Second one lasted 12k. Subaru NA replaced both. Third CVT seems to be fine with about 30k miles. Never again will I buy a CVT Subaru— after ten Subies this is the last I’ll buy.

In other Subaru forums members believe periodic fluid changes improve CVT life and are recommending 60kmi intervals, sooner for towing, etc.

2015 Subaru Outback CVT in freezing weather - Car Talk Community
2019年2月17日 · In below freezing temperatures the CVT transmission in my 2015 outback will not adjust to the normal ratio causing the engine to run 500-1000 rpm faster than normal for the 25-40 mph speed for the first five miles or so until it warms up. This didn’t occur when the car was new but has for the past 25-30,000 miles, it now has about 60,000 miles. Is this typical or …

Subaru outback CVT - General Discussion - Car Talk Community
2011年5月26日 · I own a 21010 Subaru outback with the CVT transmission. When in D (drive) and I downshift using the paddles, for example from 6 to 4 ,the transmission stays in that gear even when you accelerate or decelerate, for 30 - 35 seconds, this can be a problem when trying to merge into traffic since the transmision should downshift to 3 or 2 when you step on it.
