Lady Surma D'Bait Mar Shimun (27 January 1883 – 7 December 1975) was the sister of the Catholicos Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East and leader of the Assyrians, Mar Shimun XIX Benyamin. Lady Surma was born in Qodshanis in Hakkari.

This chapter relates some key episodes from the life of Surma Khanum, who was the sister and aunt to Assyrian patriarchs during the turbulent years of the First World War and its aftermath. The archbishop of Canterbury's English missionaries educated her, during which time she displayed an aptitude for foreign languages.
Lady Surma d’Beth Mar Shimun
The Lady Surma was the only woman in attendance at the League of Nations, representing the Patriarch of the Church of the East, the Assyrian people and her nation. In 1925 she was presented with the Order of the British Empire by HRH, King George V, a token she had repeatedly refused to accept.
