Svartsot is a Danish folk metal band formed in 2005 in Randers. On 17 December 2008 Michael Lundquist Andersen, Niels Thøgersen, Claus B. Gnudtzmann and Martin Kielland-Brandt announced they had left the band because of different opinions on how to run a band and how the music should sound.

In August 2004 the folk/black metal band "Skoll" was formed in Randers. A change of direction occurred in early 2005 as the songwriting began leaning towards a more pure folk metal style, so it was decided to rename the band to "Svartsot". Svartsot means "black sickness" in older Danish, a type of jaundice that causes a person's skin to turn black.

In August 2004, the precursor to Svartsot was founded in Randers, Denmark, playing folk-influenced black metal. The band went under various names, finally settling on Skoll (the name of the wolf in Nordic myth who pursued the sun, before finally swallowing it).
