Jul 1, 2002 · I have tried many Sweet & sour spare ribs recipes, and this one is a keeper! I definitely agree Dark brown sugar produced more appetizing color of the ribs & the sauce. I added sliced ginger and carrots. The onions better to cut into quarters. The results comes close to Leeward Drive-Inn style!

In a large pot, heat oil; add spare ribs and ginger and brown ribs. Add sugar and stir. Add liquid ingredients and stir. Bring to boil and lower to medium heat for about 30 minutes. Simmer until meat is soft. Add thickening to desired consistency and stir. Makes 6 servings.
