However, SIG made one last change to the slide profile, simplifying it to make production more economical. This change was made by the early 50,000 serial numbers, and it’s the style that would be produced from then on.

In 1975, Switzerland became the first nation to officially adopt the P220 as the "Pistole 75" (P75) chambered in 9 mm Parabellum. Other nations to adopt it for military use include Japan (general issue) and Denmark (which has the earlier P210 in general issue) only to special forces.

The pistol 75 (civilian designation SIG P220) was introduced in the Swiss Army in 1975 as the 9mm pistol 75 (9mm Pist 75) and replaced the Pistol Mod. 49 (SIG P210) (9mm pistol 1949, 9mm Pist 49, P49 or SIG P210). 2019年2月21日 · I've been trying to get hold of an example of this pistol for over 25 years now since first seeing one in a 1977 edition of "Small Arms of the World" and today I finally brought one home; and it's even an early version with the Type 1 slide! The problem is, because P75's are still current issue, they aren't available as surplus.
