Female police officers as a share of all police officers reached 50.1% in 2014 in Switzerland, according to the United Nations. This is 8.18% less than in the previous year. Historically, female police officers as a share of all police officers in Switzerland reached an all time high of 54.6% in 2013 and an all time low of 46.4% in 2012.

Law enforcement in Switzerland is mainly a responsibility of the 26 cantons of Switzerland, who each operate cantonal police agencies. Some cities also operate municipal police agencies as provided for by cantonal law. The federal government provides specialised services and is responsible for the protection of the Swiss border.

In Switzerland, a federal state, police legislation is mainly the responsibility of the cantons. In some cantons, women in police custody are transferred to a nearby prison to ensure that they receive adequate care; in other cantons, they are detained in the police station's cell block.
