The Historical Atlas of Sydney provides access to the key maps and map series held by the City of Sydney Archives. The maps range from the 19th and 20th centuries and were produced variously by Council itself, other government authorities or private surveying firms and individuals.

It started out as a track from the site of Captain Arthur Phillip's settlement at what is now The Rocks, leading southward into the area of today's Central train station. It became colonial Sydney's main street, taking the name of High Street as was the English custom at the time.

Sydney's first photograph, a view down Bridge Street, was taken on 13 May 1841, by Auguste Lucas, a visiting French sea captain. Lucas demonstrated his amazing daguerreotype camera at the stores of Messrs, Joubert, and Murphy, in the hope of selling it.

2017年4月7日 · George Street was the first street to be built by the colonists when they arrived in Sydney Cove. Yet it was not a carefully planned street, or even truly ‘built’. Early in the history of the colony Governor Phillip began to have public buildings built along a fairly level ledge of land to the Western side of the Cove.
