Upgraded versions of the T-41 with more powerful engines and more specialized equipment were based on the Cessna 175 derivative of the 172, including the T-41B for the Army, T-41C for the USAF Academy, and the T-41D for the U.S. Military Aid Program.

The T-41 Mescalero is a military version of the Cessna 172 that was fitted with a larger engine and variable pitch propeller. The Mescalero has been used by the United States Air Force and Army as well as the armed forces of various other countries as a pilot training aircraft.

The T-41 was acquired from Lackland AFB, TX for static display in 1995 after T-41 Flight Training was phased out at the Air Force Academy. The T-41 is the military version of a Cessna 172 and was used for pilot indoctrination training.

The T-41A model is used by Air Training Command for preliminary flight screening of Air Force pilot candidates before their entry into undergraduate pilot training. A more powerful version, designated T-41C, is used for cadet flight training at the United States Air Force Academy.
