The M113 is a fully tracked armored personnel carrier (APC) that was developed and produced by the FMC Corporation.

4 天之前 · Five prototypes, designated T113, were built using aluminium armour and powered by Continental air-cooled engines. A further five prototypes, designated T117, were also built using steel armour and driven by a Packard water-cooled engine. By 1957 ATAC had received one of each of both types of hull.

Two versions were engineered in 1959, the aluminum-skinned T113 and the steel T117. They were demonstrated to the US Army Ordnance and eventually the T113 was chosen and modified as the T113E1 in 1960. At the same time, the truncated nose was modified as a straight sloped front plate, which became its trademark.

Two prototypes emerged, the steel-bodied T117 and the aluminum-based T113. The latter was chosen and standardized for production as the M113 armored personnel carrier (APC) in 1960. It went on to become one of the most successful Western military vehicles, with over 80,000 units produced and in use with over 40 nations, some to this day.
