
M47 Patton - Wikipedia
The M47 Patton was an American medium tank, a development of the M46 Patton mounting an updated turret, and was in turn further developed as the M48 Patton. It was the second American tank to be named after General George S. Patton, commander of the U.S. Third Army during World War II and one of the earliest American advocates of tanks in battle.

The M47 was armed with a more powerful 90mm gun than the M46’s, along with a new stereoscopic rangefinder to improve accuracy. Production ran from July 1951 until November 1953 and 8,576 were built. It was the last American tank to have a five man crew and a bow machine gun. The M47 had a very long service life, but not with the Americans.

The M47 Patton was an intermediate solution basically incorporating the M46 hull and a newly shaped turret originally designed for the T42 heavy tank that did not enter service at all. It was the last US tank with a five-man design. The tank was not fitted with any NBC, night fighting or computerized fire control systems.
