The Grumman TBF Avenger (designated TBM[1] for aircraft manufactured by General Motors) is an American World War II -era torpedo bomber developed initially for the United States Navy and Marine Corps, and eventually used by several air and naval aviation services around the world.

Introduced since the start of the Open Beta Test prior to Update 1.27, the TBF-1C is a decent torpedo bomber. It has access to AN-M66A2 (2,000 lb) bombs as well as Mk. 13-6 torpedos. Defensive armament is lacking with only one single 12.7 mm turret providing fire from the top and a single 7.62 turret mounted in the underside.

Built to replace the obsolete TBD Devastator, the TBF torpedo bomber was produced by Grumman. TBM’s were licensed by Grumman and produced by General Motors, to allow Grumman to concentrate on building the F6F Hellcat. The TBF was used primarily for anti-sub patrols, bombing missions and rocket-firing strike aircraft.

The Grumman TBF Avenger is the well-remembered, massive WW2 US Navy torpedo bomber of the USN. It was also at the time the largest and heaviest single-engine aircraft of the war. It forged an enviable reputation as the main stick of the fleet carrier force in 1942-45, insturmental in the Pacific Campaign.

The TBF-1C entered production in the summer of 1943, with Eastern building it as the "TBM-1C". The enhanced armament proved particularly useful in suppressing defensive fire on naval targets.
