The Shirt Tails' name comes from their habit of wearing their shirts outside of their pants as their insignia, and they concealed three to four weapons in their shirts; other gangs flaunted their weapons for intimidation.

By the 1910s, this sinister gang had been absorbed into other street gangs. The Eastman Gang were also headquartered around Corlear’s Hook and may have had its beginnings as a break away gang of the Short Tail Gang.
