The 1976 Tangshan earthquake (Chinese: 唐山大地震; pinyin: Tángshān dà dìzhèn; lit. 'Great Tangshan earthquake [b] ') was a M w 7.6 earthquake that hit the region around Tangshan, Hebei, China, at 3:42 a.m. on 28 July 1976. The maximum intensity of the earthquake was XI (Extreme) on the Mercalli scale.

2024年6月11日 · On this day, Tangshan, which was destroyed by an earthquake lasting just over ten seconds, was covered with lime dust and wailing. Approximately two hundred and forty thousand people died and about one hundred sixty thousand people were injured. The earthquake also reached 96.01 miles to the capital city, Beijing.

2022年12月4日 · A 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit near Tangshan on the night of August 6, 2023 at 02:33 local time (Asia/Shanghai). The center of this earthquake was located 310km south-southwest of Tangshan at a depth of 18km under land.

At 3:42 am on July 28, 1976, the Tangshan Fault ruptured at a focus depth of ~15km, producing a M7.8 earthquake. The epicentre, the city of Tangshan, experience X (extreme) on the Modified Mercalli (MM) intensity scale, while locations up to 9,500 square kilometres away experienced VIII (severe) intensity.

2022年12月20日 · In this study, we use a new seismic data set to investigate the detailed geometry of the Tangshan fault zone by relocating earthquake sequences, investigating focal mechanism solutions and constructing seismic tomographic images.
