Tetrapod - Wikipedia
Stem-tetrapods and "fish-a-pods" were primarily aquatic. Modern amphibians, which evolved from earlier groups, are generally semiaquatic; the first stages of their lives are as waterborne eggs and fish-like larvae known as tadpoles, and later undergo metamorphosis to grow limbs and become partly terrestrial and partly aquatic.
Evolution of tetrapods - Wikipedia
The evolution of tetrapods began about 400 million years ago in the Devonian Period with the earliest tetrapods evolved from lobe-finned fishes. [1]
The origin of tetrapods - Understanding Evolution
Tetrapods evolved from a finned organism that lived in the water. However, this ancestor was not like most of the fish we are familiar with today. Most animals we call fishes today are ray-finned fishes, the group nearest the root of this evogram.
A Devonian tetrapod-like fish and the evolution of the tetrapod …
2006年4月6日 · Here we report the discovery of a well-preserved species of fossil sarcopterygian fish from the Late Devonian of Arctic Canada that represents an intermediate between fish with fins and...
Tetrapod - Examples, Characteristics, Evolution, & Pictures
2024年7月31日 · Tetrapods are vertebrates with four limbs. They belong to the superclass Tetrapoda, with over 30,000 species, including all extant and extinct anamniotes (amphibians) and anamniotes (reptiles and mammals). Their name is obtained from the Ancient Greek words ‘tetra,’ meaning ‘four,’ and ‘pous,’ meaning ‘foot,’ referring to their ‘four legs.’.
The Fish–Tetrapod Transition: New Fossils and Interpretations
2009年3月17日 · In a nutshell, the “fish–tetrapod transition” usually refers to the origin, from their fishy ancestors, of creatures with four legs bearing digits (fingers and toes), and with joints that permit the animals to walk on land. This event took place between about 385 and 360 million years ago toward the end of the period of time known as the Devonian.
Rise of the Earliest Tetrapods: An Early Devonian Origin from …
Tetrapod fossil tracks are known from the Middle Devonian (Eifelian at ca. 397 million years ago - MYA), and their earliest bony remains from the Upper Devonian (Frasnian at 375–385 MYA).
The Evolution of the First Tetrapods - ThoughtCo
2019年2月24日 · About 400 million years ago, a fish with primitive lungs and stumpy limbs climbed out of the water and onto dry land. Learn about the first tetrapods.
Evolution: The deep genetic roots of tetrapod-specific traits - Cell …
2021年5月24日 · Based on embryology and comparative genomics, recent studies reveal that genetic pathways and gene regulatory elements responsible for the invasion of land by tetrapod ancestors are deeply conserved in fish. Finding evolutionary antecedents of tetrapod novelties in fish has been a fundamental area of inquiry in evolutionary biology.
Sustained high rates of morphological evolution during the rise of ...
2021年8月23日 · Here, we use advances in Bayesian morphological clock modelling to reveal the evolutionary dynamics of early tetrapodomorphs (tetrapods and their closest fish relatives).
