The Texas and Pacific Railway Company (known as the T&P) was created by federal charter in 1871 with the purpose of building a southern transcontinental railroad between Marshall, Texas, and San Diego, California.

Jul 16, 2016 · The Texas and Pacific Railway Company was the only railroad in Texas, and one of the few in the United States, to operate under a federal charter. Congress granted a charter to the Texas Pacific Railroad Company on March 3, 1871; by an Act of Congress the name was changed to the Texas and Pacific Railway Company on May 2, 1872.

After months of intensive study and planning, three great railroads—the Pennsylvania, Missouri Pacific and Texas and Pacific—inaugurated daily, through passenger train service between New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and the principal cities of Texas along the Texas and Pacific route.

May 29, 2020 · What grew to become the 20th century’s Texas & Pacific Railway sprouted from some of Texas’s earliest railroads. The Lone Star State’s pre-Civil War network included 11 operating companies. One of the earliest was the Texas Western Railroad, chartered in 1850 and soon renamed Vicksburg & El Paso.

Aug 8, 2019 · Then in 1976, the Texas and Pacific was merged into the Missouri Pacific, along with the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad, thus ending the separate identity of the Texas and Pacific Railroad after just over one hundred years of existence.

Jan 5, 2024 · In December 1881 the Texas and Pacific Railway linked to the Southern Pacific Railroad in Sierra Blanca, Texas to create the third transcontinental railroad line in the United States by connecting St. Louis (via Texarkana) to Los Angeles.

Jan 24, 2025 · Texas and Pacific Railway Company, Texas railroad merged into the Missouri Pacific in 1976. Chartered in 1871, it absorbed several other Texas railroads and extended service to El Paso in the west and New Orleans, La., in the east.
