Magma > fire, so the attack hit his real body. Akainu was focusing on one murder at a time. People then arrived to save Luffy. Yep, Ace was dumb.

2023年7月1日 · Ace's death was done for a few reasons: It put Luffy at the center of the Paramount arc, which was necessary to expose a shitload of characters and end the current era which created a power vaccuum in which to make Blackbeard progress, but also give Luffy room to grow in the new world. It created a huge midpoint climax to the entire series.

I totally get this even the explanation of lava "burning" fire is a bit mushy science. Essentially Ace got his insides all fucked by one of the strongest characters in the series, I get it.
