The Ford GT40 is a high-performance mid-engined racing car originally designed and built for and by the Ford Motor Company to compete in 1960s European endurance racing. Its specific impetus was to best Scuderia Ferrari, which had won the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race for six years running from 1960 to 1965.

Although this famous finish photo displays a magnificent triple win for Ford – with 3 Ford GT40s coming in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd – the story of individual “setback” around it taints it nonetheless.

2025年1月15日 · After some years, in 2004, Ford revived the iconic GT nameplate with a new model inspired by the original GT40. It featured a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine that delivered 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Mk III GT40 marked a departure from its racing-focused predecessors, aiming to bring the GT40 experience to the road. Produced in limited numbers, only 7 were ever made, the Mk III was a more civilized, road-legal version of the iconic car.

Eight factory cars were entered, three each from Shelby and Holman & Moody, with two more supplied from England by Alan Mann Racing. The main competition would come from 11 Ferraris, which included three 330P3s and four 385P2s.
