Whatever happened, we can safely say that Tiger "222" was lost in battle with the 1st Armored Division, on 23-24 June 1944. The Allies claim to have knocked out this tank on 23 June 1944. If so, the Germans didn't count it as a loss until the 30th when they retreated from this area. It has clearly been demolished.

Kurt Sowa’s Tiger 222, comandeered by Wittmann at Villers-Bocage. There are a number of possible reasons for this, most of which stem from the (assumption?) that Sowa’s tank was in fact his assigned 222.
