You will need a 20-spline bottom bracket tool, but even this is relatively inexpensive (and if you have a co-operative near you, you may even be able to rent time/tools to do everything there).

When installing my crankset on the BB, I do not get the same feel/resistance as I do with my other cranksets of different brands as I tighten the crank bolts. It seems like I can just keep cranking down on the crank bolts till I totally bottom down the crank arms on the spindle taper shoulders, which fortunately was able to keep myself from doing.

Take a hammer and an open-end wrench that will fit the nut on the cotter pin. Firmly tap the non-nutted side of the cotter pin and at the same time tighten the nut when you feel that the nut can turn.

With a cartridge bottom bracket the drive side has to be pretty tight. The torque spec is usually around 30 to 35 ft/lbs so imagine a 30 pound weight on the end of a foot long wrench. The non-drive side is really just a spacer to keep the bottom bracket from tipping inside the BB shell.
