Tilem (dark moon) is a ceremony dedicated for Dewa Surya (the god of sun). Hindu Balinese people praying at the village temple in the afternoon. Tilem is believed as a special day to purify inner self and to eliminate all impurities inside of human being.

For Hindus who follow the Saka year, tilem day is the last day of one lunar month. This is called the amavasya system. There is also the Purnima system, where one month ends on a full day. Tilem Kasanga is the most lively tilem day because it always coincides with the Ngerupuk day (Tawur Agung Kasanga), the day before Nyepi."
