Timahoe (Irish: Tigh Mochua: 'House of Mochua') [2] is a village in County Laois, Ireland, 12 kilometres (7 mi) south of Portlaoise on the R426 regional road. The population of Timahoe in 2002 was 517, a 2.6% increase since 1996.

In addition to the mainstream school there are two special classes for pre-school children with an autism diagnosis. Also known as Timahoe National School, we are situated in the quiet and peaceful village of Timahoe, 12km from the town of Portlaoise.

No above ground remains of the church are visible today, with the castle, graveyard, and round tower the last vestiges of Mochua’s monastery at Timahoe. The 15 th century church was rebuilt in the 16 th century, possibly by the Cosby’s, with only a large arch remaining.

Timahoe is most famous for its round tower, which is thought to date from the early part of the 12th century. It has one of the most ornate, Romanesque-style doorways of any round tower in Ireland, and on a bright morning, the wonderfully intricate carvings of interlacing chevrons and representations of human heads can be seen.
