The Tornado Intercept Vehicle 1 (TIV 1) and Tornado Intercept Vehicle 2 (TIV 2) are vehicles used to film with an IMAX camera from very close to or within a tornado. In 2007, Sean Casey and his team built the second Tornado Intercept Vehicle, or TIV 2, to be featured in their next IMAX movie and Storm Chasers series. The vehicle was designed by 40 welding students at the Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton, Oklahoma, and was completed the same year, in time for the 2008 tornado season.

The Tornado Intercept Vehicle 2 (TIV2) is a mobile tripod built for capturing close-range tornado footage. It features deployable wind flaps, anchoring spikes, and layered armor made of steel, Kevlar, polycarbonate, and aluminum. Storm of Passion is a team of nine volunteers dedicated to preserving and operating a piece of storm-chasing history.

The TIV-2. The Tornado Intercept Vehicle 2 (TIV2) started as a Dodge Ram 3500 and was modified by IMAX filmmaker Sean Casey for the 2008-2011 seasons of Storm Chasers. It intercepted several tornadoes, including an EF-4 in Mississippi (2011) and an EF-3 in Kansas (2013). After the show ended, TIV2 fell into disrepair.

TIV 2 was designed to address some of the problems experienced with the original TIV, namely its low ground clearance, lack of four-wheel drive, and low top speed. It is based on a Dodge Ram 3500 that was strengthened and converted to six-wheel drive by adding a third axle.
