My research group works on the immunopathogenesis of type 1 diabetes. We use pancreatic beta cells and T cells purified from genetically modified mice to investigate the role of perforin, death receptors and inflammatory cytokines in beta cell death and diabetes.

Tom Kay (born 22 May 1969) is a British lightweight rower. [1] He was three times world champion; twice with the lightweight men's four (in 1991 in Vienna and in 1992 in Montreal ) and once with the lightweight men's eight (in 1994 in Indianapolis ).

Professor Tom Kay is Director of SVI and an Honorary Professorial Fellow at The University of Melbourne. He trained in endocrinology and clinical immunology. His research is focused on the pathogenesis and immunotherapy of type 1 diabetes including clinical islet transplantation, and mechanism-based treatments early in the course of the disease.
