2025年3月2日 · Classic & Vintage - Early 80's Trek 400 fork replacement - I am trying to track down a replacement fork for a 1983 Trek 400. The original fork was damaged years ago and in a pinch was replaced with a chrome fork. Would like to get back to an original or at least something that isn't a boat anchor.. Any suggestions??

My 1980 Trek 410 was originally equipped with 700c wheels. I'm wondering if that bike is older. It's hard to say, but from the pictures it appears that the front caliper may have enough adjustment left to fit a 700 rim. It would be possible to rebuild the wheels with 700c rims using the original hubs, new spokes, nipples, and rims.

You aren't getting a Trek with a carbon fork for <$500. The new FX3 retails for $700, which is a sensible price point for a bike with a carbon fork.
