Both of these were former Terminal Railway Association of St. Louis units with the same numbers and had been purchased in May 1972. The unit wears the paint scheme of its former owner, the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis.

Numerous eastern trunk lines like the Baltimore & Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York met major western carries including the Missouri Pacific, Union Pacific, Rock Island, Frisco, and others.
