The biggest difference between the two assessments is that, as of January 11, 2021, the original Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSI or TSIA) is no longer used to measure college readiness in the state of Texas. The new TSIA2 has replaced it. Here are the basic facts:

The Texas Success Initiative (TSIA2) is a state legislated program designed to improve student success in college by requiring all students attending public institutions of higher education, unless considered TSIA2 Exempt, to complete assessment in reading, writing and mathematics before enrolling in classes.

Students who didn’t meet college readiness on the SAT or ACT must take the TSIA2 diagnostic test. This placement test decides where they should start in post-secondary educational qualification courses. Some students don’t have to take the TSIA2.
