These are the best shelters I have encountered on the AT. They are clean, like actually clean. The privy is wonderful, as wonderful as a privy can be.

2020年7月30日 · The Appalachian Trail goes through through Caledonia State Park, located within Michaux State Forest, and is about 10 miles north of Tumbling Run Shelter, a rest stop along the A.T. Perfect for my first solo backpacking trip, so with that and the dates decided, I began to prepare for the trip.

Begin by hiking past the PATC Hermitage Cabin and crossing Tumbing Run. This heads uphill and reaches the Chimney Rocks Road and Chimney Rocks Vista Trail whichs leads to the overlook. After enjoying the view, follow the Appalachian Trail South towards the Tumbling Run Shelter. The Hermitage Trail leads back towards the start point.

2017年9月4日 · The Tumbling Run Shelter in the Mont Alto (now Michaux) State Forest (PA) was built in 1936, by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The original structure was torn down and rebuilt in the 1980s by the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, as a pair of shelters, in keeping with the other shelters in this stretch of the Appalachian Trail.
