The HPER originally opened November 27, 2000 as a 72,000 square foot recreation center located on the corner of Student Lane and Farris on the southwest corner of the UCA Campus. In 2012 the process for an extensive expansion and renovation project began.

Students who want to stay active visit the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Center. The 65,000- square-foot recreation center is home to basketball courts, volleyball and badminton courts, a walking/jogging track, an exercise class studio, and a fitness center complete with a full slate of cardio and strength-training equipment.

Our Group Exercise Classes are designed to offer our members a variety of activities to complement our fitness center, weight room and recreational activities offered at the UCA HPER Center. Brigadier General Amanda Azubuike ’93 has served in the US Army for more than 36 years. She began her active-duty career as a UH-1 helicopter pilot with the 924th Aviation Support Battalion at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga., where she served as platoon leader. As an aviator, Azubuike served in overseas missions including Sinai, Egypt and South Korea.

The newly-expanded Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) Center re-opened November 24, 2014. This event was four years in the making. The Student Government Association (SGA) proposed expanding the HPER Center in 2010 as a senior class goal/project. An architectural feasibility study was done in fall 2010.
